After inbounding the ball beneath their own basket, trailing by a point, the Terrapins worked the ball quickly up the floor, with Tahj Holden passing to Drew Nicholas. As the fractions of the final second ticked off the clock, Nicholas put up a shot from right in front of the Maryland bench. It was good (and it stayed good after a video review), and it gave the sixth-seeded Terrapins a 75-73 victory over the Seahawks and the right to meet third-seeded Xavier on Sunday in the second round of the South Regional.
Nicholas said the winning play was designed for Steve Blake, who was supposed to come open off a screen. ''My instincts took over,'' Nicholas said. ''I ran to the ball. Tahj threw it to me. The rest is history.''
