With just his second shot attempt of the game he hit a 3-pointer with under 2 seconds remaining to give the Tigers a 1-point lead in a game they had trailed by 19 points. But, with no timeouts remaining, UConn's Scott Burrell heaved the full-court pass that Tate George corralled. He spun and put up a 15-footer as the buzzer sounded.

Burrell didn’t even see the shot go in but he knew the result from the eruption of the crowd. George's unforgettable shot gave UConn a 71-70 victory and a date withe Duke in the regional final. Unfortunately for the Huskies, lying in wait was Christian Laettner, who delivered a buzzer beater of his own just two days later.
