ASG Home Run Derby - Giancarlo Stanton 61 Print
Giancarlo Stanton is one of the most prolific power hitters ever to set foot on a baseball diamond. So, naturally, he showcased his talents in the Home Run Derby in San Diego’s Petco Park as part of the 2016 All-Star festivities. Stanton made the notoriously-large field seem small, blasting a Derby-record 61 homers, besting the previous high of 41 by 20 bombs. Interestingly enough, Stanton participated in the Derby even though he was not selected to the All-Star Game, making him the first non-All-Star to compete since Brian Dozier represented the Twins in Minneapolis for the 2014 Derby. After winning, Stanton was asked why he came out to San Diego despite not making the NL’s roster. He pointed to his trophy and said, “See this bad boy? That’s why I came here.”
