If there’s anything we learned about Ned Yost’s Royals teams during their back-to-back AL Championship seasons, it’s that they never quit. No matter what. After losing the 2014 World Series in seven games, they were back with a vengeance the next season. In the decisive Game 5, KC’s never-say-die mentality was key.
Up 3-1 in a Series in which they trailed in every game, it was pretty clear the Royals wanted the title. Badly. Kansas City entered the top of the 9th inning trailing 2-0 and just a 7 percent chance of pulling out a win. The Mets’ Matt Harvey dominated the Royals for eight innings and was back out to try to complete the shutout. So of course Eric Hosmer halved their deficit and knocked Harvey out of the game with an RBI double. Of course he moved over to third on a groundout. Of course Hosmer tried to score the tying run on a groundout to third after David Wright threw to first. And finally, of course he slid in safely after the throw home went wild. The Royals were back in it, because of course they were.
The two teams traded zeros for a couple of extra innings until Kansas City exploded for a five-run 12th. The Mets couldn’t overcome the huge deficit. Thanks to never giving up, the Royals had their first championship in 30 years.
This Kansas City Royals poster makes for a perfect gift for the Royals fan in your life. It would complete any office, game room or man cave of a Royals fan. And you don't even have to worry about a frame - all prints ship framed.
