Some argue that in baseball, tension correlates with temperature; when the calendar reaches summer, scuffles and brawls happen more often. But in October, things change. When elimination is on the line, things can get very hot, very quickly. That’s exactly what happened when the Rangers and Blue Jays were tied, late, in a decisive ALDS Game 5. In a wild, 53-minute 7th inning, José Bautista was up with two runners on after the Jays had just tied the game at 3 runs apiece. Joey Bats ripped a go-ahead, 3-run shot, admired it, and emphatically chucked his bat before trotting around the bases. The bat flip incited a shouting match between the ballclubs, and the benches cleared twice before the inning finally came to an end. The Jays would end up winning the series, three games to two.
