After being blanked in the ALCS opener, the Red Sox were in must-win mode. Detroit sent their ace, Max Scherzer, out to the mound for Game 2 and he gave Boston’s hitters fits, no-hitting the team into the 6th inning. Scherzer exited the game after seven innings with his team up, 5-1. Turns out, they should have left him in.
In the 8th, Boston quickly had Tigers pitching on the ropes. After a double, a walk and a single, the bases were loaded with two outs. Seems like a pretty good spot to have a clutch hitter come up, and David Ortiz was the perfect man for the situation. Ortiz whacked a game-tying grand slam into the bullpen in right-center field. Detroit used four pitchers in the frame. With their bullpen taxed, the Tigers let the game slip away and the Sox walked off in the bottom of the 9th, but none of it could have happened without Big Papi’s grand salami.
The slam was one of Ortiz’ two hits in the six-game series, but it couldn’t have come at a better time. Besides, he saved his best playoff performance for last — he hit .688 in the World Series and was named MVP after the Red Sox won the championship in six games.
This Boston Red Sox poster makes for a perfect gift for the Red Sox fan in your life. It would complete any office, game room or man cave of a Sox fan. And you don't even have to worry about a frame - all prints ship framed.
