For the last few seasons, Bartolo Colon pitching has been age-defying. His hitting, on the other hand, has been a consistent source of entertainment for his teammates — to put it lightly. But as it usually goes in baseball, the improbable — or even seemingly impossible — tends to happen now and again. And so it happened, with Colon batting against “Big Game” James Shields. Bartolo flicked his bat at Shields’ 1-1 offering and skied a high-arcing fly ball deep to left field. The homer hit the facade of the second deck on the Western Metal Supply Co. Building in San Diego.
At age 42, Colon became the oldest-ever player to hit his first-career home run. His teammates couldn't believe it. Bartolo couldn't believe it. Years from now, people will still look back on this home run in disbelief.
