More can't miss olympics and football.. Did you say FOOTBALL!?

A recap of the past week in sports, by Zack Becker

For the third straight (spanning 12 years!) Olympics, Usain Bolt proved to be the fastest man alive, winning both the 100m and 200m sprints in convincing fashion. With these two gold medal runs, Bolt became the first runner ever to win each event three times in a row. Bolt has one more event in these Summer Games, the 4 x 100m relay. He insists Rio will be his final Olympics.

“He has obliterated Johnson’s world record!”

The result of the Men’s 400m final was a huge surprise —  Wayde van Niekerk smashed the previous world record by over a tenth of a second and beat the Olympic record by nearly half a second. The world record mark had stood since 1996. The South African runner became the first to ever win gold in Lane 8.

Bumgarner struggles early, makes up for it

Madison Bumgarner hits homers. We know this. But did you know each of his three homers this season have given the Giants the lead? After surrendering a grand slam earlier in the game, Bumgarner launched a two-run moonshot to put his team back out in front. In the process, Bumgarner became the fourth player to homer off of both Jacob deGrom and Clayton Kershaw since the start of last season, joined by sluggers Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, and Giancarlo Stanton.

He likes to climb

Anthony Rizzo climbs walls. We know this. He’s done it before and here he is, doing it yet again. It’s amazing every time.
Yankees’ youth movement has pop

Alex Rodriguez essentially retired on August 12. The very next day, the Bombers called up rookies Aaron Judge and Tyler Austin. Then they went back to back in their first at bats. That’s never happened before.

NFL’s back: Remember these guys?

In his new gig as Browns starting QB, RGIII hit Cleveland wideout (and former OSU QB) Terrelle Pryor for a beautiful 50 yard TD strike

Looking ahead, looking back...

August 15

2012 — Felix Hernandez tosses the 23rd — and most recent — perfect game in MLB history. It was the third of the 2012 season, the most ever in one year. This perfecto is the only one ever thrown in the month of August.

August 19
